Three Strategies to Help Your Kids Survive Today's Electronic Media Epidemic

Expert Author Raphael Neff
According to a 2010 study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, children ages 8-18 spend on average 7 hours and 11 minutes daily using electronic media devices for entertainment purposes-which over the course of a year amounts to more than four times the number of hours spent in school!
And that's not even counting cell phone calls and texting.
Since kids multi-task much of the time, total media consumption is 10 hours and 7 minutes daily!
Excessive use of electronics is permanently damaging our children's lives at a time when their social, emotional, and cognitive development is most critical. If you're like many parents today, you're familiar with the resulting fallout: grades suffering in school, family members ignored, and kids increasingly unable to make important decisions.
With this alarming trend starting so early in our children's lives, how can you as a parent lead your child to enjoy a fruitful, productive childhood?
I see an alarming number of young drivers AND adults with the eyes on their smart phones, not on the lurking dangers of the road. And I have found myself guilty of the same.
My own kids are watching me. Am I texting while driving? When I come home from work, do I leave my phone in my pocket or am I rechecking my email while they beg for my attention?
This technology opens our communication with people on the other side of the world, at the expense of those next door, or... at our own dinner table.
#1 Start early with healthy habits
A recent study reported that "neural pathway formation in children who overuse technology is 'short-circuiting' the frontal cortex, permanently altering the way children think and behave, creating unimaginable problems for the education and penal systems."
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has advocated the following for years:
  • Children should watch no more than one to two hours of quality TV or videos daily.
  • Children under age two should not watch TV.
  • Parents should not allow TV use in children's rooms.
  • Children should not watch TV while doing homework.
Consider regulating use of other electronic media as well. Remember, it's okay to lay down rules. You are the parent doing this for their well-being!
The earlier you provide boundaries for your children, the more easily they accept them as normal, and the more you can provide opportunities for a positive outcome.
#2. Don't just regulate media-replace with positive alternatives.
With about 9% of our nation's kids "addicted" to playing video games, resulting in underdeveloped social skills, it's time we heed the experts reminding us that creative, social childhood play is crucial for their development.
Sports and playing board games with family or friends are both fun, easy ways to strengthen your child socially, emotionally, and cognitively.
#3. Take an interest in your child's activities.
When 4-6 year olds were asked whether they would rather watch TV or spend time with their dad, 54% said they would rather watch TV! Is it possible that many kids today are more interested in engaging with media in part because parents are not showing the interest they could in their kids' lives?
Children whose parents are actively involved in their schooling, however, are
  • less likely to experience social or behavior problems;
  • more likely to become accomplished and achieve better grades.
In addition to helping at your child's school, as a parent you can
  • create a home environment conduce to learning;
  • provide access to books and other learning materials;
  • talk to your children about school;
  • give encouragement and homework help as needed.
It's insights like these that you can use to protect your family.

How Can We Prevent Abuse Of Electronic Media Devices?

Expert Author Carolyn L. Nelson
How many adults stay up at night on social network sites catching up on your day? How many adults text before bed catching up with their friends and family? Do you find that this affects your sleep? I know from personal experience if I stay up and do these things right before bedtime, I cannot fall asleep. My brain pistons are firing and I cannot quiet my thoughts. I have learned not to do this. I have a friend in another state-3 hour differential, and we talk infrequently, so I talk to her when I can and it is chatting with her on Facebook late at night (my time). Then, I have problems falling asleep. I end up staying up and reading on my Nook. Is this a culprit also? I have not found it a problem-only when I want to finish the book to find out what happens. Then I feel like a little girl with the flashlight on underneath my covers reading when I am supposed to be sleeping.
This is a serious problem. The children and teenagers find us doing this and they either copy us or just do it to be in connection with their friends-an extension of their day at school to talk to their friends when they do not have time to talk to them outside of lunch or after class. It can easily be used as a babysitter for younger kids, but what are we teaching them? And, what kind of trouble are they getting in when we are not supervising sites they are on?
With the new Techno world we are facing we now have to be mindful of these things and not only educate ourselves, but educate our children appropriate use of such devices. Children will use social media and say things that they only think they are telling friends. They are not aware they are allowing the entire world to read their work and that the ramifications of what they say-how it will affect them or how it will affect others. Children and adolescents have not developed higher abstract thinking that adults have developed to think ahead and realize the consequences their actions may cause.
We as parents and adults can set good examples for our kids. One example is maybe to have every other day a plugged in day. On the plugged in day, children have an hour to be on the internet, web-based games, video games, telephone texting, and limited TV. On the off day there is no use of electronics belonging to this Techno world. You plan game night, story time, going to the library, etc. Another example is setting specific hours when electronic media can be used and when they cannot be used. This will eliminate the late night hours on electronic media that interfere with sleep. Will the children and adolescents be angry when you set these limits? Yes, they will be. Do not give in. When they see you mean business, they will stop fighting. Yes, you may be the electronic media police, but it will be for a good reason. That means, you will have to set the example. One way is to have all electronic media out of the bedrooms and left only in the family area. That is where it can be used. I had one mom who took her adolescent's cell phone and iPod at 9 pm at night and she did not get it until the next morning.
These are only some things to think about. We have to prepare ourselves for the new Techno world that we now live in and read up on it as much as we can. What is good for our children and adolescents? We need to know where they are and who they are with on electronic media. I had one client on-line on play station playing a game with gamers. He got into a chat room with who he thought was a 12-year-old girl. He gave out identifying information and was texting her on the phone. When his mom looked into it, it happened to be an adult male from another country.
Dangers abound and we need to be aware of what is out there on the electronic media as well as how much we allow our children and adolescents to utilize these outside Techno devices. I cannot implore enough-education, education, education. There are now You-Tube Videos on what can go wrong with Techno media. Watch them, have your kids watch them. Educate them on the dangers of too much electronic media. Do not get caught with your pants down.

Importance of Electronic Media Monitoring for Increasing Business Effectiveness

Electronic media is that media that make use of electronics for the user to access the content. The key electronic media sources familiar to the populace are known as video recordings, audio recordings, multimedia presentations, slide presentations, CD-ROM and Online Content etc.
In nexus to the above, electronic media monitoring has its significance amplified in this dynamic IT environment. With businesses mushrooming at a spurt speed its relevance at the workplace has increased manifolds. Electronic media monitoring brings together businesses from all sectors in an extraordinary global network, committed to documenting and altering patterns of portrayal in the forefront.
Electronic monitoring is a tool used in corrections rather than a correctional program in itself. It is used for intensive supervision. Owners are struggling to earn the understanding of their employees. And this technique assists them in getting closer to bridging the lacuna in the working of the employees. Maximizing the results derived from the energies of the employees employed is vital to the success stature for any business.
Lost worker productivity is a noteworthy issue faced by business leaders today. Arguably one of the chief issues contributing to this is the personal use of company computers by employees - a trend that has evolved from today's tech savoir-faire generation of human resources who view this as a right versus a privilege. In retort, budding statistics of employers are spinning to sophisticated technology to scrutinize computer doings on the Internet, use of electronic mail, and computer file transfers.
The benefits of an effective computer monitoring system cannot be demonstrated in limited text here. Eventually we discovered that all the above is just the tip of the iceberg relative to the inappropriate web destinations being accessed during work time. When surveyed about the kind of websites browsed by the employees the revelation was beyond imagined. Employee visits to inappropriate websites; on-line dating services, e-shopping portals, and even resume update sites brought a shocking picture to forefront. All this impels the need to monitor activities that play a dominating and a crucial role in the making or breaking of the business.
The recent times, have experienced an explosion of information and its trouble-free availability on Internet has thrown up new challenges for managers engaged with reputation management.
Because of all diverse information that needs attention, monitoring via electronic media has become important and challenging.
However on national level it is carried out in a different tone. Media monitors in each country apply a standardized set of monitoring tools to amass the essential information. National data is provided to countries that desire to create reports based on their own exact findings. The two main facets to monitoring are, the first is the study to collect quantitative data.
This provides a comprehensive picture of the entire scenario. Second is the qualitative monitoring that moves behind the numbers to look at the quality of the coverage. All in all, every business today has a lifeline that pumps around its effective monitoring utilizing media concepts that proves as an added asset to its very functioning. To conclude with, it would not be wrong to say that Electronic Media Monitoring is vital for appending business effectiveness in all its dimensions.

Ever wondered, who posts the brand messages on the Facebook or the Twitter every day. Ever wondered who forms and manages Websites like Sunsilk Gang of Girls or Lipton Challenge - World's Largest Puzzle. OK so now you must be wondering "Why Digital Media, what is it all about etc.?" So let us answer your questions one on one:
The 'What & Why' of Digital Media as a Career Option:
What is Digital Media all about?
Digital Media refers to electronic media. For us we need to keep 2 things in mind: Internet & Mobile.
Digital Marketing is the business of promoting products or services using digital distribution channels to reach consumers in a timely, relevant, personal and cost-effective manner.
So why should you choose it as a career option?
Even when the world is slowing down, Digital Media is running at a much faster pace each day. In fact, with more and more organizations opting for digital media campaigns, the media is growing by leaps and bounds. With this, is growing the number of agencies that are offering 360U services under digital domain. And this in turn is opening up multiple job avenues.
However, with each day it is becoming more complex and hence a thorough understanding of what, why, when, where and how of it shall empower the digital media professionals to come up with innovative ideas, thereby, breaking through the clutter.
Digital media is an apt career option for the young and enthusiastic tech savvy generation (you again). It is this young generation that accesses the digital media the most, and spends majority of its time understanding the digital parlance, finding out newer and fresher ways to communicate and connect.
Hence, as this media is still evolving, it provides immense opportunities to you to prove your mettle. All your entrepreneurial skills can be tried, tested and nurtured here. However, the media being complex, a course in digital marketing / media as a specialized domain shall help aspirants to hone the requisite skills to deliver path-breaking solutions.
So, what exactly does a digital media professional do?
Various Things.
To begin with a digital media professional has wide array of functions to choose from depending upon his / her area of interest.
Strategy:
Strategy is the knowledge warehouse of the organization. It encompasses thorough research pertaining to the brand, competitors, category & consumers, which thereafter is used to generate insights that lead to formulating campaigns that not just last long but last forever. So if you are inquisitive, observant and enjoy analyzing, then this is the right option for you.
Client Servicing & Business Development:
Love talking to people, meeting them, and networking? Then, this is the department to be in. You need to be a good listener and a good speaker. Not to forget, you need to know how to balance between being calm or aggressive. Getting work done aptly summarizes the role of a professional in this department.
Technology:
Seek logic & explanation into everything? Enjoy creating something on your own? The tech team has people just like you.
Creating websites, widgets, applications and other such stuff is what these guys primarily do. You need to be enjoying working on programming languages (Asp.Net, PHP, and JAVA, to name a few) to be here.
Creative:
If things like imagination, designs, colors, beautiful statements rule your world then you got to join the bunch of creative guys. Art to think through forms, situations or categories is what you need to develop.
Thinking, thinking different and creating something unique is an obvious expectation out of a creative fellow.
Search / Social Media Marketing:
Social networks, search, videos, blogs take major time of your day? So much so that your family and friends feel the need to have a social network profile to get in touch with you?
Two things would summarize what people do here:
*Enjoy conversations, reading them, initiating them, managing them and placing brands into the conversational game.
*Understand why and what does one search for and how to link a brand to the relevant search.
Media Planning:
Numeromaniac. Is that you?
Numbers define the media planning world. Love for numbers is a must; else, you may not survive.
Following trends, consumers, and new developments is the second major function of a media planner. Follow anything and everything; know who is doing what and why.
Thanks & Regards
Sandy

Useful Tips to Get High Quality Electronics at Wholesale Prices

Expert Author William King
With the expense of technology the electronic media is also revolutionized. Nowadays we are so dependent on these electronics that they have become our everyday necessity. Some years back the electronics were not as much popular as they are now. Besides the electronics were very expensive and had less variety but now electronics are so diversified that it is impossible to check the quality of the electronic products. Especially the Chinese electronic wholesale products are of many qualities and the same product is available in many price ranges.
There are some useful tips for buying electronic products at wholesale rates and if those tips are followed it is hoped that one would get good and high quality electronic wholesale products at low rates.
Let's first see what the main thing is which causes electronics' price to have so much difference and variation in them. Electronics have many small parts known as capacitors, resistors, triodes, diodes, etc. these parts are not only used once or twice in a small electronic but about tens and twenty times.
Now what manufacturers do is that they get these products in quite huge quantity from China as the labour cost there is very cheap as compared to other countries. The parts imported from China are although very cheap but their quality is not as good. They stop working after some period of time. The functioning of electronic wholesale products is very much different from other devices. If a single tiny wire or part is broken or burnt the whole electronic device will not work and the device becomes useless for you.
So the first thing to watch out for while buying electronic wholesale products is that quality of that product. Never go for shiny outlook of that product, check the finishing and weight of the product and if you find it of good quality then for sure it will be of good quality inside. Always remain cautious of extremely low prices because extreme low price doesn't means that the seller feels sympathy for you and is giving you high priced product at low rate but it's a booby trap and he is actually about to rob you.
While looking for electronic wholesale products online at lower rates, you should consider searching for shopping bots and other paid directories because paid directories always offer genuine wholesale products. You should also watch out for deals in the market because many suppliers offer deals which really cost less. When you find an appropriate supplier you can also negotiate with him because electronics have bigger margins as compared to other products. While you are done with negotiating, check for payment types. If you use credit card it will be beneficial for you as some companies offer greater warranty if credit card is used. If you follow these simple tips then it's hoped that you will surly get high quality of electronics at wholesale rates.
